  2. Complete a Board-Approved Training Program
Complete either a 500-hour employer-based on-the-job training program or a Board-approved academic pharmacy technician program.
  3. Pass a National Certification Exam
Successfully pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) from PTCB or the ExCPT from NHA to earn your CPhT credential.

Questions

Is continuing education (CE) required for West Virginia renewal?
The West Virginia Board of Pharmacy does not require separate CE for state registration renewal, but you must maintain your national certification (PTCB/NHA), which requires 20 hours of CE every two years.
When does my pharmacy technician registration expire?
All technician registrations expire annually on June 30.
Can I work as a technician while my application is pending?
No. You must be registered as either a Trainee or a Technician before you can perform any technician duties in a pharmacy.
What is the pharmacist-to-technician ratio in West Virginia?
The standard ratio is one pharmacist to four technicians (1:4), though the Pharmacist-in-Charge may request a different ratio under certain conditions.
