Endorsement Steps

Step 1
Complete Education & Supervised Practice
Earn a master's degree or higher from an ACEND-accredited program. Complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of board-approved supervised dietetic experience.

Step 2
Pass the CDR Examination
Successfully pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Registration Examination for Dietitians. Verification of current RD status satisfies this.

Submit the Application to WVBOLD
Download and complete the application form from the WVBOLD website. Submit it with the $69 fee.

Step 4
Provide Verification Documents
Submit a copy of your active CDR card or have verification sent directly to the board. Ensure you meet the age (18+) and citizenship or legal alien requirements.

Licensed Dietitian (LD): The credential to practice and provide medical nutrition therapy in West Virginia, regulated by WVBOLD.
Provisional Dietitian Permit: Available for applicants who have completed their education and supervised practice but have not yet passed the CDR exam. Valid while awaiting examination and allows practice under supervision. Costs $46.
