Endorsement Steps

    Complete a Master's Degree in SLP

    Earn a master's degree from a CAA-accredited speech-language pathology program.

  2. Step 2

    Pass the Praxis Examination in SLP

    Achieve a passing score on the Praxis Examination in Speech-Language Pathology (test code 5331). The current passing score is 162.

  3. Step 3

    Complete the Clinical Fellowship

    Complete a minimum of 36 weeks of full-time supervised clinical practice (1,260 hours) under an ASHA-certified SLP.

  4. Step 4

    Apply Online via TDLR

    Submit your application through the TDLR Online Licensing System. Pay the $80 application fee and complete the fingerprint-based background check ($37).

License Types

Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP): The standard credential to practice speech-language pathology in Texas. Requires a master's degree, Praxis exam, and completion of a supervised Clinical Fellowship (CF).

SLP Intern License: For Clinical Fellows completing their post-graduate supervised experience. Valid during the CF period under an ASHA-certified mentor.
