How to Apply

  1. Download and Complete Application
    Download the 'Audiologist / Speech Pathologist' application packet. Initial applications in Rhode Island must be submitted via paper mail as the online portal is currently restricted to renewals and specific other professions.
  2. Submit Application Fee
    Include a check or money order for $65.00 made payable to the 'RI General Treasurer'. This fee is non-refundable and must be attached to the top of the application.
  3. Request Official Transcripts
    Contact your doctoral program to have official transcripts sent directly to the Board. Transcripts must show the degree conferred (AuD) and the date of graduation.
  4. Submit Praxis Scores
    Request that your official Praxis exam scores in Audiology be sent directly from ETS to the Rhode Island Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

  5. Complete BCI Background Check
    Obtain a Criminal Background Check (BCI) from the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office. This can be done in person at the Cranston Customer Service Center for immediate results.

Steps

  1. Submit Initial Application
    Applicants licensed in other states use the same standard application form as initial applicants.
  2. Interstate Verification
    Complete the 'Interstate Verification Form' included in the packet and send it to every state where you hold or have held a license. The other state boards must return the form directly to Rhode Island.
  3. Verification of Certification

How many continuing education hours are required for renewal?
Audiologists must complete 20 clock hours of continuing education every two years, including 1 hour of ethics and 2 hours in cultural competency/DEI.

Can I apply for my initial license online?
