How to Apply

  1. Create a PALS Account ▾
    Register for a user account on the Pennsylvania Licensing System (PALS) to begin the application process.

  2. Complete Child Abuse Training ▾
    Complete 3 hours of Board-approved continuing education in child abuse recognition and reporting. The provider will report completion to the Board electronically.
  3. Submit Initial Application ▾
    Log into PALS, select the State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and complete the 'Audiologist by Education' or 'Audiologist by Examination' application.

  4. Register for Fingerprinting ▾
    All new health care practitioner applicants must obtain an FBI fingerprint-based background check. Use the service code provided in your PALS application to register with IdentoGO.

  5. Request Official Transcripts ▾
    Contact your university to have official transcripts conferring your Doctoral degree (AuD) sent directly to the Board.
  6. Submit Praxis Scores ▾
    Request that ETS send your official Praxis Audiology (test code 5343) scores directly to the Pennsylvania Board using code 8053.

Steps

  1. Verify Out-of-State License ▾
    Request a Letter of Good Standing from every state where you hold or have held a license, to be sent directly to the PA Board.
  2. Submit ASHA Certification ▾
    If applying via waiver/reciprocity, provide proof of a current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) from ASHA.
  3. Complete PA Application ▾
    Select 'Licensure by Reciprocity' or 'Licensure by Waiver' in the PALS portal.

Gaps in employment history or failing to list activities in chronological order from graduation will cause the application to be returned for correction.

What is the initial application fee? ▾
The initial application fee for an Audiologist license is $50.00.
How many continuing education hours are required for renewal? ▾
Audiologists must complete 20 clock hours of continuing education every two years, including 2 hours of mandated child abuse reporter training.
When do Pennsylvania Audiology licenses expire? ▾
Licenses expire on July 31 of every even-numbered year.
Is a background check required for every renewal? ▾
No, fingerprint-based FBI background checks are required for new applicants only. Renewing licensees are not required to obtain a background check for renewal.
Can I practice while my application is pending? ▾
If you hold a valid license in another state, you may apply for a provisional license which allows practice for up to 90 days while awaiting full licensure.
