Endorsement Steps

  1. Step 1

    Earn a Master's Degree in SLP

    Complete a master's degree from a CAA-accredited program. Must include 375 hours of supervised clinical practicum, including 25 hours of clinical observation. At least 250 hours must be at the graduate level.

  2. Step 2

    Obtain a Conditional SLP License

    Apply for the Conditional SLP License ($210) to begin your clinical fellowship. Complete 9 months full-time or 18 months part-time of supervised clinical practice under an experienced SLP.

  3. Step 3

    Pass the Praxis Examination

    Achieve a passing score on the Praxis Examination in Speech-Language Pathology (test code 5331). The current passing score is 162. Exam fee: $165.

  4. Step 4

    Apply for Full SLP Licensure

    Submit the full SLP license application ($200) via the eLicense Ohio portal. Include official transcripts, Praxis scores, clinical fellowship verification, headshot photograph, and background check results.

License Types

Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist: The full credential to independently practice speech-language pathology in Ohio. Requires a master's degree, completed clinical fellowship, passing Praxis score, and background check.

Conditional SLP License: Issued to SLP graduates completing their clinical fellowship (postgraduate professional experience). Application and license fee: $210. Allows supervised practice for 9 months full-time or 18 months part-time.

How many CE hours are required for Ohio SLP renewal?

Ohio requires 20 hours of continuing education every two years, with at least 2 hours in ethics and 10 hours directly related to clinical speech-language pathology practice. CE hours for the first renewal period are not required.

When does my Ohio SLP license expire?

Ohio SLP licenses for the 2025-2026 biennium are valid until December 31, 2026. Renewal notifications are sent via email starting October of the expiration year.
