How to Apply

  1. Educational Requirements ▾
    Earn a master's or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology from an ASHA-accredited program.

  2. Pass the Praxis Exam ▾
    Take and pass the Praxis Speech-Language Pathology exam (test code 5331). Ensure scores are sent to the NJ Board using reporting code R7668.

  3. Apply for Temporary License (Clinical Internship) ▾
    If you are beginning your clinical internship, apply for a temporary license. This requires a supervision plan and a $125 fee.

  5. Complete Jurisprudence Orientation ▾

How many continuing education hours are required for renewal? ▾
Licensees must complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years. A maximum of 10 hours may be from home study.
When does my New Jersey SLP license expire? ▾
All SLP licenses expire on October 31 of odd-numbered years.
Is New Jersey part of the SLP Interstate Compact? ▾
No, New Jersey is not currently a member state of the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC).
Do I need to be a U.S. citizen to be licensed? ▾
No. New Jersey law allows individuals to obtain professional licensure regardless of citizenship status if all other requirements are met.
