Endorsement Steps

Step 1
Complete Education & Supervised Practice
Earn a master's degree or higher from an ACEND-accredited program. Complete a minimum of 900 hours of board-approved supervised practice through an accredited dietitian internship.

Step 2
Pass the CDR Examination
Successfully pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Registration Examination for Dietitians. Verification of current RD or RDN status satisfies this and the education requirements.

Step 3
Submit the Application to DHHS
Complete the application form for Medical Nutrition Therapy Licensure and submit it with the $114 fee, proof of age (minimum 19), and proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful presence.

Step 4
Provide Verification & Fingerprints
Send a copy of your active CDR card or have primary source verification sent. Starting January 1, 2026, all DHHS applicants must undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
