How to Apply

  1. Complete Graduate Education ▾
    Earn a master's or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology from a CAA-accredited program or equivalent.
  2. Pass the Praxis Exam ▾
    Register for and pass the Praxis Speech-Language Pathology exam (test code 5331) with a minimum score of 162.

  3. Apply for a Temporary License ▾
    If you are starting your Clinical Fellowship (CF), you must apply for a temporary license to practice under supervision. Submit the application with a supervisory plan.
  4. Complete Clinical Fellowship ▾
    Complete a 36-week (minimum 1,260 hours) supervised clinical fellowship. Your supervisor must be a Maine-licensed SLP.
  5. Submit Full Licensure Application ▾
    Apply for permanent licensure via the online portal or by mail. Include the $71 total fee ($50 license + $21 background check).
