Requirements
Pharmacy Technicians licensed in another state can often apply via endorsement by providing license verification and current certification.

Steps

  1. Apply as a New Registrant
Georgia does not offer reciprocity for pharmacy technicians. Out-of-state technicians must follow the standard initial registration process.
    Start New Application
  2. Submit Background Check
Complete the Georgia-specific fingerprinting process through IdentoGO as results from other states are not accepted.
    Register for GAPS
  3. Provide Certification Proof
If you are nationally certified (PTCB/ExCPT), submit your certificate to qualify for certified status in Georgia, which affects pharmacist-to-technician ratios.

Slow Downs

Missing Notarization
Failure to have the Application and Citizenship affidavits notarized will result in the application being returned or delayed.
Incorrect Fingerprint Service Code
Using the wrong service code on IdentoGO prevents the Board from receiving your background check results. Ensure you use 2TGRNG.
Premature Supplement Submission
Mailing the paper supplement before completing the online application and paying the fee prevents the Board from matching your documents to your file.
Incomplete Education Proof
Submitting an application without a copy of a high school diploma or GED certificate is a frequent cause for administrative holds.

Questions

Is national certification required to work in Georgia?
No, national certification (PTCB or ExCPT) is not required for registration, but it allows a pharmacist to supervise more technicians (up to 4 if at least 2 are certified).
How long is my pharmacy technician application valid?
Applications are valid for one year from the date of submission. If not completed within that time, the application becomes void and a new fee must be paid.
Can I transfer my pharmacy technician license from another state to Georgia?
No. Georgia law and Board rules do not allow for reciprocity or endorsement for pharmacy technicians. You must apply as a new applicant.
What are the continuing education (CE) requirements for renewal?
Technicians must complete 20 hours of Board-approved CE every two years. The renewal deadline is June 30th of odd-numbered years.
What is the minimum age to become a pharmacy technician in Georgia?
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age to register with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy.
