Slow Downs

Incorrect Background Check Service Code
Using the wrong service code for IdentoGO will result in the background check being rejected, requiring a new appointment and fee.
Missing Third-Party Documents
Delays often occur when waiting for transcripts or license verifications to be sent directly from other institutions or states.
Board Meeting Schedule
The Board only reviews applications during their monthly meetings. If an application is completed just after a meeting, it will not be reviewed until the following month.

Questions

Do I need a Delaware license to work in a school setting?
Yes. All Speech-Language Pathologists working in Delaware, regardless of the setting (including schools), must obtain a Delaware license before delivering services.
When does my Delaware SLP license expire?
Licenses expire on July 31 of odd-numbered years (e.g., 2025, 2027).
What are the continuing education (CE) requirements for renewal?
Licensees must complete 30 hours of approved CE every two years. At least 20 hours must be in clinical skills, and starting in 2025, 2 hours must be in ethics.
Can I practice while my application is pending?
No. You must have an active Delaware license or a temporary license issued by the Board before you can begin practicing.
Is ASHA certification required for a Delaware license?
While ASHA certification is the primary pathway for initial licensure, Delaware allows for reciprocity if you have practiced for at least five years in another jurisdiction.
