Requirements
Pharmacy Technicians licensed in another state can often apply via endorsement by providing license verification and current certification.

Steps

  1. Apply as a New Technician
Alabama does not have a separate reciprocity or endorsement application for technicians. Out-of-state applicants must follow the standard 'New Pharmacy Technician' application process.
  2. Submit National Certification
If you are already a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA, upload your certificate to satisfy Alabama's training requirement immediately.
  3. Verification of Out-of-State License
While not always explicitly required for technicians, be prepared to provide proof of your current registration in another state if requested by the Board during the review.

Failure to upload all required ID and citizenship documents within 30 days will stall the application process.
Criminal History Non-Disclosure
Failing to disclose even minor criminal history that appears on the background check can lead to significant delays or denial of registration.
Training Verification Delay
Failing to upload the Training Verification Form within 10 days of completing your 6-month training window can lead to disciplinary action or registration lapse.

Questions

What are the CE requirements for Alabama pharmacy technicians?
Technicians must complete 6 hours of Board-approved CE every two years (biennial renewal in odd-numbered years). At least 2 of these hours must be 'live' (in-person or interactive virtual).
Does Alabama require PTCB certification?

How long do I have to complete my training?
New technicians must complete a Board-approved training program within 6 months of their initial registration date.
When does my technician registration expire?
All technician registrations expire on December 31st of odd-numbered years.
Can I work while my application is pending?
No. You cannot perform pharmacy technician functions or be present in the prescription department until your registration is approved and you have printed your certificate.
