How to Apply

  1. Create a Gateway Profile ▾
    Visit the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) website and register for a new account in the Licensure Gateway. This portal is used for all applications and license management.
  2. Submit New Technician Application ▾
    Log into your Gateway profile, select 'Applications', and choose 'New Pharmacy Technician Application'. Complete the required fields regarding your personal information and employment.
  3. Pay Application and Background Fees ▾
    Submit the $60 application fee and $40 background check fee (plus processing fees) through the Gateway. Payment must be made within 7 days of application submission or the application will be cancelled.
  4. Upload Required Documents ▾
    Upload a copy of your driver's license, a recent passport-style photo, and your birth certificate (or U.S. passport) to the document checklist in your Gateway profile within 30 days.
  5. Complete Background Check ▾
    Follow the specific instructions provided in your Gateway profile or via email to complete the criminal background check process. Failure to disclose criminal history can lead to denial.
  6. Complete Board-Approved Training ▾
    If initially registered on or after Jan 1, 2020, you must complete a Board-approved training program within 6 months. National certification (PTCB or NHA) satisfies this requirement.
  7. Submit Training Verification ▾
    Once training is complete, upload the 'Technician Training Verification Form' or your PTCB/NHA certificate to your Gateway profile within 10 days of completion.
